OUR RESPONSE

to the global water crisis

Today, in this global age of technology, it’s hard to believe that over 800 million people around the world still do not have access to safe water and nearly 2.3 billion people are living without proper access to hygiene and sanitation magnifying the global water crisis. Thirsty people are left in misery with dysentery and hopelessness that is caused from drinking dirty water. Water is life. Without it, these people have to overcome significant hardships everyday just to survive. Hope is a fleeting sentiment and families mourn the loss of precious children that die unnecessarily all due to preventable and treatable diseases caused by not having safe, clean water to drink.

Water 4 Kids International is changing this desperate reality by responding village-by-village to this global crisis by providing sustainable, life-saving solutions for safe water throughout East Africa and Asia. These proven water solutions are engineered to last up to 50 years; impacting thousands of villagers at a time that will change the trajectory of these villages forever.

Join us as we restore these barely surviving villages into thriving communities with the gift of clean, safe water. It will bring hope and healing to the thirsty; providing them with good health and a fantastic bright future!

DEEP WATER WELLS

Oftentimes, the most significant and longest-lasting solution to a remote village’s water problem can be answered with the drilling of deep-water wells commonly known as “boreholes.” Boreholes offer access to clean water below the earth’s surface that can be easily extracted by even the youngest child by using a small hand pump that does not require any electricity. Engineered to last 30-50 years, this water solution can provide clean water to thousands of villagers with one well. Specializing in the drilling of wells, W4KI oversees the entire borehole drilling process and equips villagers with operation and maintenance training to ensure their borehole will last decades. To date, W4KI has drilled over 750 wells throughout Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, India, The Philippines, Liberia and Bangladesh.

Make a life-saving impact on an entire community.

For a donation of $10,500, W4KI will drill a deep water well – providing clean, safe drinkable water to thousands of people living in rural East Africa. Through clean, safe water, basic hygiene/sanitation training and the love of Jesus Christ, a village will be restored with hope, good health and a bright future.

Your gift is a vital investment in helping the most vulnerable have hope.

Your financial gift will transform lives – breaking the bondage of suffering caused by dysentery and hopelessness they once knew from drinking dirty water. However, through your generous, financial gift, we can change the trajectory of the future for these people in need with clean water and the love of Jesus. It will make a measurable, generational impact for years to come.

OTHER WATER SOLUTIONS

Before every water project, W4KI assesses the need to find the longest lasting, sustainable solution for the community. When piped water is not accessible and a borehole is not feasible, other solutions may be implemented to provide long-term safe water to communities such as production wells, rain harvesting systems, water filtration devices or cistern reservoirs. We work diligently with the communities because each project is unique having to work through their own set of circumstances to the development and implementation of a safe water source.

Production Well

When city piped water schemes are not available, production wells are a great solution for larger projects (schools, hospitals, etc.) that require a higher yield of water with multiple water points including community taps, bathrooms, showers and sinks. Connected to a solar-powered submersible pump, clean water can be adequately pumped throughout campuses and large compounds. Production wells vary on cost depending on the scope of the project but are an integral component of larger, sustainable projects where a higher yield of water is needed.

Water Filtration System

For many people in the world the amount of water is not the issue - it is the fact that their water source is unsafe to drink. Villagers living on remote islands or by low-lying swampy lakes or other areas affected by extreme flooding routinely drink contaminated water to stay alive.

Filtration devices remove life-threatening bacteria down to the one-micron level, providing 99.9% safe water to drink. This life-saving solution is for individual use and perfect for filtering water used for drinking and cooking. Water 4 Kids has brought hundreds of filters to projects around the world including Uganda, Haiti, India, Nepal, Romania and Mexico.

For less than $50, a water filtration device is perfect for individual and family use that will provide clean, safe water for individual households.

Rain Harvesting System

The rain harvesting system captures rain using gutters on buildings that funnel the water into large water tanks. This solution does not require any electricity and is a best fit for the villages that get ample amounts of rain. It may be used in a mountainous village where there are sufficient rain levels, but where oftentimes the water table is too deep for the installation of a borehole.

Cistern Reservoirs

Cisterns are not a common solution for providing safe water in Uganda, however they are used regularly in other parts of the world. It is a large, cemented reservoir that can allow people access to safe water year-round. It may capture rainwater for collection but is also able to tap into an aquifer or spring. In mountainous nations like Nepal, cisterns are engineered to capture natural spring runoff water from the mountains. They may hold thousands of gallons at a time; providing clean water access to dozens of families.

Hygiene & Sanitation Training

W4KI aims at fighting extreme poverty and disease through the provision of clean water for children and their communities through the drilling of deep-water wells in remote villages. However, drilling a deep well in a community with poor hygiene and sanitation does not completely fight poverty and disease. To achieve our goals, W4KI has designed a Hygiene & Sanitation Program that can be used to ignite a community to take action and attain total sanitation.

Hygiene is greatly improved when greater emphasis can be focused on behavior change that leads to sustainable sanitation practices. We trigger the community’s desire to change, propel them into action, encourage mutual support, appropriate local solutions leading to greater ownership and sustainability.

Vital hygiene and sanitation training is included in every water project W4KI oversees. Training topics include disease transmission, safe water chain, personal hygiene, proper disposal of waste, safe practices for food and water storage.

Instilling proper hygiene practices takes time. Since the drilling process requires multiple visits from our W4KI team, we take these opportunities to assemble communities together for hygiene & sanitation sensitization training.

Operation & Maintenance

Operation & Maintenance

Great operation and maintenance starts on Day 1.

A significant part of our mission in delivering safe, clean water is to ensure the well will be open and fully functioning for decades as it was engineered. A critical component to fulfilling this mission is instilling ownership with the community which starts on Day 1 when we establish our initial relationship. Although O&M sensitization continues through the life-cycle of the drilling process, W4KI sets up specifically formulated committees and equip them to oversee every water project. Water committees set up the rules and regulations of the well (borehole) and ensure the maintenance schedule is adhered to going forward.

While we celebrate every well we have drilled, our emphasis is to make sure wells are open and fully functional. Our W4KI team makes periodic visits to the villages to evaluate the boreholes, encourage, motivate and train the Water committees to support them in their O&M efforts.

It takes a village to restore a village. We are proud of the training and support we walk alongside each village.
